In the coffee and cocoa region

Kpalimé → Atakpamé

1h45100 km

You head today towards Atakpamé, a town perched on a hill, in the heart of a region renowned for its coffee and cocoa crops. With Kpalimé and Badou, it forms the coffee-cocoa triangle of Togo, an area marked by the importance of these agricultural productions.

Once a mountain refuge, Atakpamé gradually developed to become an agricultural and administrative center during the German colonial period. Its history bears witness to the different stages that shaped the town's identity.

You then discover Atakpamé's central market, set around the main square. This meeting and exchange place holds an important position in the daily life of residents. For this second day in Atakpamé, you begin with a city tour to discover its atmosphere and local traditions. You notably set out to meet the blacksmiths, whose craftsmanship and ingenuity you discover through their artisanal work. You then continue your exploration in one of the animist villages in the region, where you witness a performance of the traditional Tchébé dance on stilts, an emblematic cultural expression of Togo.

This dance is distinguished by stilts that can reach two to four meters in height, on which the dancers perform various figures. Between balance, agility and mastery of movements, this spectacular tradition testifies to a know-how passed down through generations and holds a special place in the cultural heritage of the region.

After this immersion in the local traditions of Atakpamé, you return to the city to spend the night there.

The History of Slavery

Atakpamé → Aneho

3h30200 km

This morning, you resume your journey towards the south coast of Togo, to discover another facet of the country's historical heritage. You reach Agbodrafo, a former Portuguese city located about thirty kilometers from Lomé, between Lake Togo and the Atlantic Ocean. Today peaceful, this small coastal town retains traces of a past deeply marked by the slave trade.

Once a slave trading port, Agbodrafo was part of the region historically known as the "Slave Coast". You discover several vestiges testifying to this painful period of history, notably the slave house, also called Woold Home, as well as the well of the chained.

This emotionally charged visit allows you to better understand the history of the slave trade and discover places of memory that still bear witness today to this past.

You then continue your journey to Aného, where you reach your hotel for your stay.

You finally take advantage of your last moments in Togo to do some souvenir shopping and have some refreshments before your transfer to Lomé airport for your return flight.

Your day begins with the discovery of Togoville, a village located in the maritime region of Togo, between Aného and Lomé. Situated on the shores of Lake Togo, the country's largest lake, this village offers a pleasant setting to discover rural life and local traditions.

You board a traditional pirogue for an excursion on the lake, heading towards fishing villages. This trip allows you to immerse yourself in the daily life of the inhabitants and observe their fishing activities.
